Started off the night drawing a 71 which would put us starting last in the first heat race. We weren’t sure how the kart was going to handle after the changes we had made this week. At the drop of the green RJo took off and quickly made her way to third were she was patient waiting for the right opportunity to pass for second and as the white flag flew she knew it was time to go and made a great move down the back stretch going into turn three to get under second place. Unfortunately it was all for nothing as they would get tangled coming out of turn four. Since the leader had already taken the checkered flag the race was over and we were credited with last place.
Heat two we would start pole and hold it off until a late caution came out to bunch the field back up. Berkley Reese #16 would get a great restart wrestling the lead away from us but Rjo made a great crossover move to regain the lead and win heat two.
With the unfortunate result from heat one we would start the main in fourth. Rylee ran a great race it just took us to long to get to second and Bennett was checked out. We would come home second. We needed a caution to bunch the field back up and maybe have a shot at the win but glad we didn’t have one because at some point in the race RJo went to push the brakes and the pedal went to the floor.
This is one of our favorite races of the year as we get to remember two amazing men who would give you the shirts off their back and were taken from us to soon. The 2025 Tommy Corea/Johnny McDonald Race was a good one and can’t wait for next years!!!
